7 Facts You Need to Know About Vaping

7 Facts You Need to Know About Vaping

Research Backed Facts You Need to Know About Vaping

There’s plenty of information on the internet about vaping...but much of it is contradictory. Unfortunately, this can make it hard to separate fact from fiction.

For example, many people are confused about whether vaping is healthy or not. According to one survey, 60 percent of Americans believe that e-cigarettes are as harmful or more harmful than cigarettes.

This common misconception could prevent people from using vaping as a means to quit smoking. When you consider that cigarettes cause more than 480,000 deaths per year, this is serious business.

So how can you figure out what to believe? By seeking out the facts rather than relying on anecdotes or opinions. These 7 science and research-based facts tell the true story behind vaping:

1. Vapor Is Healthier Than Tobacco

Did you know that an estimated 16 million Americans are living with diseases caused by smoking cigarettes, and that that hundreds of thousands of people die every year from cigarette-related causes?

Products and by-products of cigarettes like tar and carbon monoxide can cause some seriously unhealthy side effects. These include (but are not limited to) cancer, lung disease, heart disease, asthma, and gum disease.

In contrast, e-cigarettes do not contain tar or carbon monoxide.

A 3.5-year study of e-cigarette users who were not smoking cigarettes revealed no significant change in lung health and normal heart function. Additionally, it was noted that the risks and symptoms of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) could be avoided or reduced when smokers switch to vaping.

Also worth noting: vaping doesn’t have the negative second hand smoke effects of cigarettes.

2. Vape Devices and Juice Are Not Easily Accessible to Children

According to the CDC, about 2000 people under the age of 18 smoke their first cigarette every single day. From this data, it’s reasonable to surmise that it’s not difficult for young people to get their hands on cigarettes.

Vaping isn’t quite as accessible to children and teens. While a pack of cigarettes includes 20 individual units, vaping is done using a single device. This can make it more challenging for curious children to obtain.

Second, the packaging for vape juices is increasingly secure. Many manufacturers package their vape juice with child-proof caps, offering an extra level of security to protect children.

3. Vaping is Cost-Effective

The average cost of a pack of cigarettes in the U.S. is $5.51. However, in some areas, such as New York City, a pack of cigarettes can cost a whopping $12.85!

For a pack-a-day smoker, the cost of smoking could add up to close to anywhere from $2,000 to nearly $5,000 per year. That’s a significant punch to the wallet!

By contrast, every bottle of vape-juice contains multiple “servings.” A container of vape juice equivalent to a pack of cigarettes might cost about $2.50. This means that vaping could be more than 50% cheaper than the average pack of cigarettes.

But the actual price of the product isn’t the only cost to consider. The many side effects of smoking can add up to increased medical bills, which certainly are not easy on the wallet.

The CDC estimates that diseases and death caused by smoking cost the United States in excess of 300 billion dollars a year. That’s a massive amount of productivity and revenue lost because of sickness and death caused by tobacco.

There is still not a lot of information about the long-term side effects of vaping. However, scientists and doctors are predicting that the health problems incurred by vaping will only be about five percent of the medical and financial consequences of smoking cigarettes.

4. Vaping Can Help You Quit Smoking

Vaping and e-cigarette use is on the rise. Smoking is declining. Are these phenomena related? Yes indeed.

A recent study showed that vaping is more effective in aiding in smoking cessation than nicotine-replacement options like the patch or gum.

The problem with nicotine replacements alone? They don’t address the actual mental and physical habit of smoking. Smokers are accustomed to the break and mental respite that cigarettes offer...and the physical act of bringing a cigarette from their hand to their mouth.

Vaping allows for this familiar hand-to-mouth movement, so a former cigarette smoker can still hold on to this part of the ritual. This makes it much easier to break up with tobacco!

Vape juice and cartridges are available with or without nicotine. There are also varying levels of nicotine in different products. This makes it easy to taper nicotine consumption over time.

While doctors don’t recommend vaping alone as a solution to quitting cigarettes, when paired with things like behavioral coaching, therapy, or simply substituting healthy habits, vaping has shown to increase the chances of quitting dramatically.

5. There’s a Huge Variety of Vape Juices Out There

When it comes to firing up your vape device, vape juice is the fuel that makes it run.

But vape juice is so much more than just fuel. It’s part of the vape experience. Vape juice comes in a huge variety of flavors and types, so you can personalize your vape experience to suit your specific desires.

Sugar fiend? You’ll find a seemingly endless variety of vape juices that will strike your sweet fancy without actually giving you a sugar high. There are vape juice flavors inspired by popular desserts like Boston Cream Donuts, as well as ice cream, cereal, and fruit-inspired flavors. If savory flavors are more your thing, there are plenty of “adult” flavors like whiskey and tobacco.

For even greater variety, consider concocting your own mixes using purchased vape juices. For instance, you might mix together a little bit of some chocolate-flavored vape juice with a little salted caramel vape juice and enjoy a custom gourmet dessert vape experience!

Yup: there are even competitions where you can earn some recognition for your innovative recipes. Be sure to try out some recipes before going rogue and trying your own mixes, though!

6. You Can Choose What You Vape

When you purchase cigarettes or tobacco products, you don’t really have a say in what you’re ingesting. This means that in addition to tobacco, you might be purchasing a massive amount of chemicals and additives. Toxic? Yep.

With vaping, the ingredients lists are typically a lot shorter. Here’s a typical vape juice ingredients list:

    • Nicotine* (see below)
    • Flavoring
    • Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
    • Propylene Glycol (PG)

Regarding nicotine, E-cigarette users are able to choose what strength of nicotine they would like in their vape juice, or can even forego nicotine altogether. If someone is using e-cigarettes and vaping as a smoking cessation tool, it is quite common to lower the nicotine content gradually until quitting completely.

The bottom line? The choice is yours. You get to choose the manufacturer, flavor, nicotine level (or lack thereof).

Of course, as with any product that you ingest, it’s important to choose the highest quality product possible. Be sure to shop for vape juice from a reputable source!

7. There’s a Great Vape Community

Vaping isn’t just a pastime. It’s a way of life.

As vaping continues to rise in popularity, a culture has begun to emerge. This is evidenced by the many vape bars, lounges, and stores that have opened in recent years. The vapor product market is predicted to reach a massive $43 billion by 2023.

The internet is also active with vape forums like E-Cigarette Forum, Vaping Underground, and Reddit where vape enthusiasts share information. Among the most common topics? Accessories, e-liquids, hardware, events/contests, and news/current events surrounding vaping.

Competitions are also becoming increasingly popular among e-cigarette users. You’ve never seen anything quite like a vape cloud competition, where experienced vapers can generate clouds unlike you’ve ever seen!

Bigger competitions like the VC Cloud Chasing Championship offered grand prizes of up to $10,000 in cash!

The ability to connect with others has contributed to the growing popularity of vaping. According to the World Health Organization, there are an estimated 1.1 billion e-cigarette users today...and the number is only increasing.
